Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from all of us here at LOGAN! It’s been another wonderful year and we wish you all a Happy New Year to come! Speaking of New Year’s Eve, we are open on Monday December 31st. Chef Thad has planned a fantastic 5 course prix fixe menu for the celebration. This will be the only menu offered that evening, so you will have to come back to have your favorites from the daily menu after our break. By the way, LOGAN will be closed January 1st through January 10th for our annual winter break.

Exciting News on the Meat Front!

Some exciting news on the meat front, Logan has fresh farm raised goat from Back Forty Acres! This is the second year the folks at Back Forty have raised animals for us, it’s becoming a yearly tradition. Lovingly raised, it’s just arrived and Chef Thad is developing new special dishes to showcase this wonderfully lean and light in textured meat. Maybe you are thinking “I don’t like anything but beef and chicken”, well now is the time to expand your carnivore horizons and dine on some goat. Prepared under the creative eye of Chef Thad it will soon be another staple of your diet.

Taste Our State at Logan
There’s no denying that the state of Michigan has gone through some hard times recently, but there has been a group of us that loves it here, and we are committed to making a better future. Among the bright stars of our New Michigan are some very gifted brewers and winemakers. Some of America’s best microbrews come from the Mitten, and we are proud to feature our favorites, from Bell’s, Founder’s, and Short’s, currently.

As a northern state, our cooler, shorter growing season more closely resembles Europe’s than the New World’s. For years, Michigan has made excellent wines from aromatic grape varieties, like Riesling and Gewurtztraminer. Bryan Ulbrich, from Left Foot Charley Winery in Traverse City, excels with these varieties, he also makes remarkable Pinot Blanc and Blaufränkisch, a spicy red Austrian variety. Larry Mawby, with his sparkling wines, and Jim Lester (Wyncroft Winery) are artisanal winemakers who are crafting elegant, complex wines that reflect our terroir.

While we are glad to support our neighbors’ businesses, it would be a mistake to think that that’s our main motivation here. These are excellent producers, making great things that belong here at Logan at any time.

A Note to the
"Friends of Logan"

We are making a change to our monthly wine dinner series. Regretfully, we are canceling our Anniversary Dinner previously scheduled for November 14th and 15th. For seven years, we’ve always maintained that these are the evenings when you could experience Logan at its best. Throughout those seven years, though, we have worked very hard to raise the level of what we do every day to that “special level”. In fact, most of our current menu items made their debut at Logan on previous wine dinner menus.

Also, we have made a commitment to offering our “Chef’s Choice Tasting Menu” every night, with a corresponding wine flight. We want to keep our wine dinners very special events. In order to do this, we’ve found we need to reduce the amount we do. As we are reaching the end of this year’s calendar, we will have a new wine dinner series for 2013, beginning with festivities on New Year’s Eve and St. Valentine’s Day. Beyond that, we are planning two or three more dinners emphasizing seasonal fare, such as a Harvest Dinner next fall. We will, of course, keep you posted when we will be hosting those dinners.

In order for Logan to improve and to flourish, we must be committed to a single quality standard: to be the very best we can be. Every day, we learn more and more about our product; how to prepare, match and present our unique cuisine for your delight. Every day, we’d like to take the opportunity to demonstrate that growth. We’ve come a long way to realizing our potential, but to keep making progress, we are committed to our best work.

Logan Presents... "Southern Exposure"

South American Wine Dinner September 19th & 20th, 2012

Join us for a great dining experience while discovering new and delicious wines from South America! Argentina has become a superstar of the wine world, and Chile is home to some really exciting developments. Can’t wait to share what we’ll find! Of course, Chef Thad will be creating a unique, five-course menu for this event. We will see you here! $110 per person, wine & food

Natural Wines at Logan

As time has gone by, we’ve made a concerted effort to find, obtain, and serve natural wines. These are wines from producers that avoid use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Likewise, we also seek wines made with native yeasts and a minimum of intervention. Wine made in this way is alive, the way raw milk cheese or Jamon Serrano is alive.

Why are we doing this? In our quest to continually improve your experience at Logan, we need to keep seeking out new flavors and textures to introduce to you. The purity and vitality of natural wines make them exciting in their own right, but their potential to create really memorable food and wine pairing is why we have become so fascinated with them.

Many of our favorite natural winemakers make very small amounts of wine, and we are not always even able to put them on our list.If you are interested, just ask Kevin about new arrivals. Biodynamic? Organic? Pre-Industrial? We’ve got them, so you enjoy them!

Enjoy them in the manner befitting them; paired with a great five-course menu. Reservations are available throughout both evenings for this very special event.
